Just a couple thoughts

This may make some people angry and it may not. But, here are my thoughts 1 day after Election Day. First, for all of the people who voted for Barack Obama because you believe in his character and you believe he is going to do great things, good for you. I am happy that you voted for him for those reasons. For those of you that voted for him because he is black, well Martin Luther King, Jr. would not be proud. The "I have a dream" speech was a speech on equality, an equality for all humans regardless of race. If you voted for Barack Obama because he was black, you are not doing what Dr. King dreamed of. He talked about a day where someone like Barack Obama could win an election and it be 100% based on character and not on race. Dr. King was not talking about his dream of having a black man in office because he is race. He talked about his dream of his children living in a country that is colorless, where someone like Barack Obama would be elected based on merit and just so happens to be black not because of it. So, if you voted for Barack Obama because of his race, I truly think you have done not only yourself, but also this entire country a disservice.

I also hope people realize that whether John McCain or Barack Obama won the election, either one would still just be another politician until proven otherwise. I hope that Obama can bring change to the country. I hope he can deliver on some of the promises that he made. I have heard a lot of people saying that they now have someone to make their hopes and dreams come true. To be blunt, I think it is a mistake to rest your hopes and dreams on the lap of a politician. Rest your hopes and dreams on your own lap after a hard days work. Rest them on the lap of your spouse and your kids. But do not let your hopes and dreams be made reality or destroyed by putting them onto the lap of one person, unless that person is you. We all have a chance to make it in this world regardless of who is sitting in the Oval Office, not because of who is sitting there.

Last night Barack Obama's victory speech was very moving. He talked about being the President for everyone and not just those who voted for him and who have supported him for months. I think it is only fair that we all stand behind President Elect Obama and give him a chance. His famous line is "Yes we can." Well, "Yes we can" give him a chance to bring change to the country. What I hope we will all do is pray that we can all come together as a country and make things better for everyone. I may not agree with all of his political philosophies or even his stance on what I believe to be moral issues, but I do agree that this country is in dire need of change. My hope is that the change that is coming is a change that we can all be proud of.

The last thing on my mind has been simple. God is and always will be in control of each and every little thing that goes on. God has an ultimate plan for everyone, including this great nation. I believe part of that plan is for us to all put aside so much of the garbage that separates us. Doing that would allow us to realize that we all have the best interest of the country at heart.

Good night.
