Just as an fyi.....this post is going to be so long that I am only going to post a few of my favorite pictures and then I will put a link at the bottom to all of the pictures from the last two days.
So the yesterday and today were interesting - for different reasons though. Yesterday several of us decided to go out to the Magic Sands Beach and see what it was all about. The waves were big, the sun was shining so we decided to go boogie boarding. I have never boogie boarded in waves anything like that before. Well, about an hour or so into it Grant and I both rode a huge wave and when he came up out of the water it was very obvious what happened. His shoulder was dislocated by the shear force of the wave. I know, terrible. Come to find out, that beach is known as the 2nd most dangerous beach in Hawaii and most of the regulars call it Tragic Sands Beach because of all of the injuries that happen there - and even some deaths.
Needless to say, we won't be boogie boarding there again.
Once the day settled down, we hung out by the pool most of the day and then went to a luau at night. It was great. The food was awesome, essentially a big BBQ, with out the BBQ sauce. The entertainment was really fun as well. I only wish that the rain had not started during the middle of it. But, it went away and the night was a blast.
Today was busy. We left the house around 7am to head up the island to see the Black Sand beach, Volcano Nation Park, the city of Hilo and the Akaka Falls. All in all it was about 250 miles of driving, 5 hours in the car and about 4 hours seeing the sites at all the different locals.
I loved the Black Sand Beach. It was neat, but boy....was it hot!! Here are a few pictures from the Black Sand Beach.
The Volcano was cool as well. The only bad part was that we could not actually do the entire park because it was closed due to the dangerous gases the Volcano is still emitting after the erruption in March. Here are a couple pictures....
The city of Hilo was not bad. It was more of a beachy feeling town that Kona. The Farmers Market was pretty cool, but it was so hot that we did not stay very long.
Lastly, the Akaka Falls. Man, I have heard people talk about the huge water falls, But nothing anyone says can describe just how beautiful it really is. Here are a couple pictures.....
As promised, here is a link to the rest of the pictures.....
